INTRODUCTION TO SPEADSHEET

 


1.       Fill in the blanks:-

 

(a)    The cell is the intersection of a column and a row.

(b)   The keyboard shortcut for copy is Ctrl+C and  for paste is Ctrl+V .

(c)    The black square which appears at the bottom right corner of the selected range is called as Auto Fill.

4.       Differentiate between:

 

(a)    Worksheet and Workbook

Ans:- Worksheet:- Worksheet is the working area or page on the screen. A worksheet consists of rows and columns.

Workbook:- A workbook consists of worksheets. By default, a workbook opens with three worksheets namely Sheet1, sheet2, sheet3.

 

(b)   Rows and Columns

Ans:- Row:- Rows are the set of horizontal rectangular boxes that are placed one above the other. There are 10,48,576 row in a calc worksheet.

Columns:- Columns are the vertical set of rectangular boxes that are placed adjacent to each other. It is labeled from left to right. By default we can view 13 columns(A-M) at a time in a calc worksheet.

 

5.       Answer the following questions:

(a)    What is a spreadsheet package? What are its features?

Ans:-  A spreadsheet package is an application package that helps to arrange, keep and compare data.

         FEATURES OF A SPREADSHEET PACKAGE

·         Large calculations can be done easily and accurately within a short span of time.

·         The data or information can be exported to or imported from other packages.

·         Data or information can be expressed in pictorial form i.e., charts and graphs.

·         The formulas are automatically applied to new data when the value of previous data changes.

·         Large volume of data can be easily organized and manipulated.

 

(b)   Explain about the components of a worksheet.

 

Ans:- COMPONENTS OF WORKSHEET

            Row:- Rows are the set of horizontal rectangular boxes that are placed one above the other. There are 10,48,576 row in a calc worksheet.

Columns:- Columns are the vertical set of rectangular boxes that are placed adjacent to each other. It is labeled from left to right. By default we can view 13 columns(A-M) at a time in a calc worksheet.

 

(c)    What is a cell and cell address?

Ans:- Cell:- A rectangular box formed by the intersection of a row and a column is called a cell.

           Cell Address:- Each cell has a unique address which is used to identify its position in the worksheet.  It is identified with the column position followed by the row number, for e.g., ‘A5’ is the combination of ‘ColumnA’ and ‘Row number5’.

 

(d)   Briefly explain about the ‘Auto Fill’ feature with an example.

Ans:- Auto Fill:- It is an additional feature in a spreadsheet in which a certain kind of predefined series of data such as series of text or numbers are automatically fed, once  the user feeds the initial data

 

6.       Write short notes on:

 

(a)    Cell Pointer:- The active cell in a worksheet is called as cell pointer. It remains highlighted in the worksheet.

 

(b)   Cell Address:- Each cell has a unique address which is used to identify its position in the worksheet.  It is identified with the column position followed by the row number, for e.g., ‘A5’ is the combination of ‘ColumnA’ and ‘Row number5’

 

 

(c)    Name Box:- Name Box lies on the left towards upperside of worksheet. It shows the address of the current cell or active cell.

 

7.       Using Keyboard, write down the action required to execute the following:

 

(a)    To move the cell pointer from any cell to A1

Ans:-  Ctrl+Home

 

(b)   To move the cell pointer to the right of the active cell

Ans:- Right arrow or Tab key

 

(c)    To move the cell pointer to the left of the active cell

Ans;- Left arrow or Shift +Tab
