Kali and the Rat-Snake
काली एक सँपेरा का बेटा था। उसके पिता पिता एक मशहूर साँप पकड़ने वाले थे। वह इरुला कबीला का लड़का था जो तमिलनाडु के तिरुवल्लुर जिले रहता है। विद्यालय जाने का बिल्कुल मन नहीं करता था क्योंकि वहाँ कोई मित्र नहीं था।
हर नए विद्यार्थी बातें कक्षा के सामने बतानी होती थी, उसी समय से उसे अजीब समझते थे। वह अपना टिफिन भी दूसरों से दूर होकर किया करता था ताकि कोई उसे देख न ले क्योंकि उसका टिफिन बाकी बच्चों के लिए अजीब था।
उस दिन विद्यालय की छत पर एक लकड़ी के लट्ठे पर लिपटा साँप घुस आया। पूरी कक्षा में अफरा-तफरा मच गई। शिक्षक भी डरकर मेज के नीचे छिप गए। बच्चे इधर-उधर भागने लगे। वे चिल्ला रहे थे और रो रहे थे। तभी साँप नीचे गिर पड़ा। और अफरा-तफरा मच गई। तब काली ने अपने पिता से सीखी हुई बातों को याद करते हुए उस साँप को पकड़ा। सभी उसकी बहादुरी के कायल हो गए। और साँप को रखने के लिए काली को बस्ता देने की उनमे होड़-सी लग गई। सबने काली के नाम जयघोष किया तथा उसे अपनी डेस्क पर बिछाने के लिए भी लड़ाई करने लगे। अब काली अकेला नहीं था। उसके पास भी ढेरों मित्र थे।

Ans- When the children saw the snake hanging from the roof, All children stared shouting, ‘help’ and were running here and there. Some children were on their desks and some were under their desks. There was a situation of hustle and bustle. The teacher was himself very afraid and yelling for help.
